DR MARIA JANA KINGSLEY-GODWIN -   MD (Distinction) 

 

 

 

 

 

Dr Maria Jana Kingsley-Godwin is a Medical Doctor, Author, Senior Medical Writer, Editorial Officer, Editor, International Ambassador and a Humanitarian who has published many books and articles on different subjects, including stories, articles on medical and healthcare matters, 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals matters and community development programmes.

 

 

Dr Maria Jana Kingsley-Godwin is a highly accomplished medical doctor with full licence to practice in the United Kingdom and in Europe. Thus, she has extensive clinical experience across the UK and Europe. She graduated Summa Cum Laude as Valedictorian in medicine, with an MD(Distinction) with first class honours and excellent grade overall – “Master Physician” Degree. Dr Maria Jana Kingsley-Godwin was the youngest ever medical student, who was admitted into Medical University at the age of 12 and 161 days, and completed her studies at the age of 17 years and 101 days, and undertook a further one-year work as an Internship Doctor/House Physician, which she completed in September 2022 when she was 18 years and 145 days.


 

Dr Kingsley-Godwin is currently finalising her doctoral equivalent studies - undertaking higher research studies in medicine and healthcare matters in public health issues, medical matters, neurosurgical concepts and surgical approaches to chronic diseases in the community.


 

Dr Maria Jana had previously worked as an Internship Doctor/House Physician; a Health and Social Care Officer/Medical Administrator in the Healthcare Sector and as an Editor – Editorial Officer/Medical Writer for various scientific and medical journals and various publications.


 

Within her Internship/6th year of medical university, Dr Maria Jana gave two lectures at the Medical University – Plovdiv ‘Days in Vaccinology, Immunology and Epidemiology’ event, organised by her medical university as part of the wider WHO global initiative and celebration for European Immunisation Week 2022 (https://mu-plovdiv.bg/en/european-immunization-week-at-mu-plovdiv-with-lecture-seminars-on-may-4-and-5/). Following her internship, she worked as a medical doctor and specialist resident doctor at the National Hospital for Active Treatment of Haematological Diseases in Sofia, Bulgaria and returned to her home country, the United Kingdom, to practice within the NHS in 2023 and she has since worked in three major London NHS Trusts. She has broad clinical experience in haematology/oncology, general medicine, acute medicine, and neurology/stroke medicine and neurosurgery.

 

 

 

Dr Maria Jana is currently pursuing specialist training in haematology/oncology. Dr Maria Jana’s research topics/areas have included: haematology and oncology, epidemiology and public health issues, neurosurgery, neurosciences/neurology, congenital anomalies, forensic medicine, healthcare matters, the impact of chronic diseases in the community and co-morbidity, cardiovascular diseases, surgical diseases, tropical and infectious diseases, diseases of old age, dermatology, urology/men’s health matters, cancers, child health/paediatrics, autoimmune diseases, women’s health issues, mental health, community development, effects of food on health/food insecurity and unusual encounters of tuberculosis in various organs and systems. Thus, her specialist interests are vast and spans numerous specialties, which include surgery, medicine, public health, global health, disasters, diabetes, genetic disorders, medical informatics, scientific matters, medical technology and innovations.

 


 

Dr Maria Jana’s medical research involves haematological diseases, blood transfusion science, effects of food on health, neurosurgery, neurosciences, neurology, congenital anomalies, forensic medicine, healthcare matters, the impact of chronic diseases in the community, co-morbidity matters, haematology, epidemiology and public health issues, surgical diseases, infectious diseases/tuberculosis, dermatology, urology, nutrition/food insecurity, child health, innovations in healthcare, medical technology humanitarian work, conflicts and recovery, disaster medicine, community development matters and applied sciences in healthcare.


 

Dr Maria Jana’s professional interests look at various issues in haematology and oncology, neurosurgery, paediatric issues in surgical practices, co-morbidities in common diseases found in the community like cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, chronic diseases, diabetes and respiratory diseases, surgical treatments of different diseases, both in adult and paediatric populations, epidemiology, urology, orthopaedics, neurosciences/neurology, dermatology, autoimmune diseases and unusual encounters of tuberculosis in various organs and systems.


 

Her specialist interests include: Heamatology, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Neurosciences, Surgery, General Medical Matters, Surgery, Haematology, Public Health, Global Health Issues, Infectious Diseases, Paediatrics, Nutrition/Food Insecurity, Pathology/Forensic Medicine, Medical Rehabilitation, Medical Emergencies, Disaster Medicine, Epidemiology, innovations in Medicine, Evidence-based Medicine, Medical Education, Medical Informatics, History of Medicine, History of Surgery, English Literature and various languages.

 


 

As Dr Maria Jana has knowledge and skills in various branches of medicine and surgery, including public health, global health, humanitarian matters, community development etc., she has a very a long publications list, dealing with all areas in medicine, surgery and healthcare issues. Thus, she is the author of over 200 peer reviewed papers and articles in various medical and scientific journals, book chapters etc. As a result, she is the first author of over 150 peer reviewed papers and articles in various medical and scientific journals, including numerous peer reviewed book chapters. About 39 of her research papers are currently indexed in SCOPUS and over 90 of her research articles and papers are indexed in other online databases. She has also authored and co-authored over 15 books chapters and reports, and 21 educational books/guides for her undergraduate and postgraduate teaching roles, which can also be found at the British Library Deposit Section) and other national and international libraries via their Legal Deposit for publications.

 

 

Dr Maria Jana has participated in over 40 Scientific International Medical Conferences, where she has given over 50 presentations and facilitated/taught over 12 educational, medical/clinical and research workshops and interactive sessions to the multi-professional healthcare workers and medical/healthcare students.

She is a member of various professional bodies including the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) Associate Membership, British Society of Haematology (BSH), Bulgarian Medical Society of Haematology (BMSH), Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland Affiliate Membership, and other professional bodies and clubs.

 

 

Apart from her vast achievements in science, medicine, surgery and healthcare matters, Dr Maria Jana also has interests in community development, education, infrastructure building and humanitarian efforts. Thus, she has been contributing and volunteering in African Community Projects, Community Health and Education programmes, Medical Practice in Developing Countries Projects and contributed in fund-raising to support orphans and widows in these parts of the world. Hence, she is passionate about the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She has particular interest in how science, technology and innovation (STI) can enhance the implementation of the 17 SDGs. Hence, she has been working on these important areas for various associations and groups, and she has published books and articles that have been used in education for a multiprofessional workforce on how to implement the SDGs and the role of STI in this regard.

 

 

In addition to her medical, research, teaching and academic work, she is an International Ambassador for various not for profit organisations. She has been involved in international youth and policy discussions linked to dialogue on many developmental schemes and she has been a panelist/keynote speaker at African Union Diaspora Youth meetings on Agenda 2063, SDGs, and Africa–Europe cooperation, including participation in activities connected to the European Union (EU) Global Gateway process and youth dialogue contributing to the EU Youth Action Plan in EU external action.

Awards in the Medical University – Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Europe:

 

  • Dr Maria Jana was named the winner of the best Bulgarian Language Handwriting in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Europe in May 2017 during an Awards Ceremony. 

     

  • Dr Maria Jana was the winner of the Rector’s prize and award for excellent student in 2018 in the Medical University, as she achieved the best excellent marks in all subjects in medicine.  She received a scholarship payment as a result of this award. 

  • Dr Maria Jana was the winner of the Rector’s prize and award for excellent student in 2019 in the Medical University, as she achieved the best excellent marks in all subjects in medicine.  She received a scholarship payment as a result of this award.

 

  • Maria Jana was the winner of the Rector’s prize and award for excellent student in 2020 in the Medical University, as she achieved overall excellent mark for all subjects in medicine.  She received a scholarship payment as a result of this award. 

 

  • Maria Jana was the winner of the Rector’s prize and award for excellent student in 2021 in the Medical University, as she achieved overall excellent mark for all subjects in medicine.  She received a scholarship payment as a result of this award. 

 

  • Dr Maria Jana is the winner of the inaugural – debutante Prestigious Award of Student of the Year Award” in December 2021 at the Medical University – Plovdiv. 

 

  • Dr Maria Jana is the Best Graduating Medical Student in the Class of 2022 – graduating with Excellent/Distinction Grade (First Class Degree) as “Summa Cum Laude/Valedictorian” in the Master’s Degree in Medicine/Master Physician Professional Qualification.
